The Courage of Compassion

To begin to understand the power of compassion, one only needs to look at the incredible effort and struggle that a mother is willing to endure for her child. Granted, not all parents are able to display such compassion. However, the vast majority do on a daily basis. Just as a mother endures physical pain, sleepless nights, countless worries and endless tasks for their children, we all have extended ourselves in challenging ways to help those we care for. If we are able to extend our care and concern to the greater community, we will find the inspiration and inner resources to overcome whatever challenges come our way. Compassion is not a luxury or simply a mushy, touchy-feely emotion. It is the well that we can draw upon to to sustain and improve the lives of ourselves and others.  – John Bruna, October 21, 2015
